From the Academy: Our Concerns About the CDC Guideline Process

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in an unprecedented effort, is developing guidelines for primary care prescribing of opioid analgesics to people with chronic pain who are not at the end of life.

The Academy is a stakeholder organization that has been asked by CDC to review and comment on these draft guidelines.

In the course of acting in that role, some concerns about the process being followed in this guideline development process have become apparent.

These concerns are significant enough that the Academy has sent the following letters to the Congressional committees with oversight jurisdiction over CDC:
