Regular exercise is one of the cornerstones for maintaining good health. But while the health benefits of exercise are indisputable, there is still a question about exactly how much exercise is needed to promote optimal health.

Every little bit of exercise counts

Drs. Eijsvogels and Thompson reviewed several published studies and concluded that as little as 15 minutes a day of moderate-intensity exercise — and only 8 minutes a day of vigorous-intensity exercise — reduced the risk of death

Even small amounts of exercise and modest increases in fitness can make a clear difference, and some exercise is always better than no exercise.

    Very interesting and I’ve often personally thought that it would depend on each individual and what they can actually manage due to health/illness or what each body personally needs to survive.

    I can’t exercise at all as my body won’t allow it anymore so my daily exercise comes from my mundane day to day living and I’ve had to change the way I do things to in order to do it.

    I was very fit & active for the most part and I miss it, but all the exercise and sport that I enjoyed have in effect ruined me now in later life. If only I’d known then (or my parents known) what I know now… then I’d have managed my life differently to help prevent the mess I’m in now…. with no help or support for my EDS :-(

    Where I live we have support groups and charities for support and help but no medical centre/clinic specific to our needs, so we are literally told that there is nothing they can do.

    It is up to ourselves to take control and self-manage but with what guidelines? generic guidelines are no good for me, do you know if there are any specifically for people with EDS?

      I don’t know of any guidelines and I think it’s because everyone’s anatomy and degree of collagen damage is so different. We just have to experiment and find what works best for us.
