Spurious Correlations – by Tyler Vigen
Hi, I’m Tyler Vigen! Spurious Correlations was a project I put together as a fun way to look at correlations and to think about data.
Empirical research is interesting, and I love to wonder about how variables work together.
The charts on this site aren’t meant to imply causation nor are they meant to create a distrust for research or even correlative data. Rather, I hope this project fosters interest in statistics and numerical research.
Wow, I had no idea that ANYbody died by becoming entangled in their bedsheets, yet around 800 people apparently died from bedsheets in 2009. It’s a KILLER BEDSHEET EPIDEMIC!! Quick, ban all bedsheets! Burn all the beds! Arrest linen makers! Force people at gunpoint to sleep on the floor in sweaters for their own safety!
This is a great one…I hope I have reason to toss one or more of these graphs out sometime, especially to the Oregon Nutjobs.
